Handy hint: Charcoal pencils are fragile and require special care. Sharpen with a hobby knife (not a conventional sharpener). Be safe and always sharpen away from yourself and (children) under adult supervision.
Use like Coloured Pencils: Mont Marte Coloured Charcoal Pencils can be used to add warm or cool tones to your artwork or sketches, similar to coloured pencils.
Versatile Medium: Coloured charcoal is incredibly versatile, allowing you to experiment with different techniques and colors to achieve the desired effect.
Control and Precision: Charcoal pencils offer more control and precision compared to charcoal sticks, making them ideal for detailed work and expressive strokes. They come in different grades of firmness for varying effects.
Blending Techniques: To blend charcoal pencils, you can use your finger, tissue, paper stump, or tortillon in a circular motion. This technique helps in creating smooth transitions between tones in your artwork.
Paper Selection: Opt for high-tooth paper with a rough texture for charcoal drawing, as it allows the charcoal to grip the grain, enhancing the overall effect of your artwork. Black paper is recommended for white charcoal drawings.
Shading Techniques: When shading with charcoal pencils, use the side of the pencil lightly to build up shadows gradually, avoiding pressing too hard. Holding the pencil towards the end can help reduce pressure and achieve a softer shading effect.
Erasability: Charcoal pencils are erasable using kneadable erasers or electric erasers, allowing you to correct mistakes and create highlights in your drawings.
White Charcoal Technique: When using white charcoal pencils, start by adding highlights first and then work on the shadows. Blend with your finger to achieve a smooth finish, especially effective when using white charcoal on black paper for a striking effect.
