There’s just something about Gertrude right?!
Here’s a really quick and easy background for a card topper that works beautifully with the new Gertrude Colorize Die cut…

I like to make a few of each design at a time. I think it’s easier, I am in the groove, and I always like to have back up supplies. So it totally works for me. I actually made 5 Gertrudes in total lol
Don’t forget that Sizzix have a step by step video for each colorize set which makes life SO much easier when assembling these guys. Below is a link to that video for ease.
TIP: I like to add adhesive sheets or run my cardstock through my Xyron machine before I die cut the pieces, as some of the pieces are quite small, and working with glue can get messy. Having the double sided adhesive at the back of the cardstock, means you simply remove the backing and stick!
I used the Hive Stencil here as I really think it mimics the zebra pattern quite well.
I ran some Texture paste through the stencil using my palette knife and then poured some Mixed Media ‘Bone’ embossing powder over the paste while it was wet
I chose to heat set the embossing powder while the paste was still wet. This will make the texture paste bubble. I like the texture. If you don’t, then simply wait for the paste to dry before you heat set the powder
I forgot to take a pic of the next step (was clearly too excited with this project). I sprayed the cardstock with Walnut Stain and Frayed Burlap Distress Sprays and then dried them using a heat tool and cut my cardstock down to size
I inked the edges of the card with Ground Espresso
And matted it onto some kraft cardstock
I die cut some ‘greenery’ from a tan coloured cardstock and inked the edges using ground espresso
I stamped a sentiment onto some dark brown cardstock using clear embossing ink and covered with Bubbly Embossing Powder and heat set that
Using my mini Wendy Vecchi Make Art Stay-tion, I lined up my elements and adhered them into place
And added some liquid pearls to some of the ‘greenery’
I really love the way this topper turned out. There is something quite calming about Miss Gertrude. Hope you get your Colorize dies out and start playing…
