- Distress Glaze: Glaze over Stamped Background Card Topper

My substrate of choice… Hot Pressed 300gsm Watercolour Paper. I almost always use this cardstock when applying heat or liquid to a background as the cardstock holds up well and doesn’t warp

One of my all time favourite stamp sets… Distress Damask! I stamped some damask designs onto my cardstock using Jet Black Archival Ink Pad and my stamping platform

Then I changed to Watering Can Grey Archival Ink and stamped randomly over the damask area using a text stamp. Because I am wanting a random print, I prefer to hold the stamp in my hand (and not use an acrylic block), and simply roll the stamp over the background.

I smashed my Hickory Smoke Distress Ink Pad onto my glass media mat and sprayed with water

Then I ran the background through the ink and dried using a heat tool

I sprayed over the surface of my background using my Distress Resist Spray and while the spray was wet, I covered it with Distress Glaze, Weathered Wood and then heat set the glaze. This creates a glaze effect over your whole background and for some reason, really makes the stamped images stand out

Then I trimmed my piece down to size

I sanded the edges of the background using a sanding block to reveal some of the watercolour paper as an ‘edge’

And matted the piece onto some black cardstock which really framed those black damask images beautifully!

I stamped a sentiment onto another piece of hot pressed watercolour paper using Jet Black Archival Ink

And once again added some hickory smoke and a spritz of water to my media mat

And ran the sentiment through the ink and dried using a heat tool

I stuck a watch cameo epoxy top over the sentiment – I LOVE the watch cameos – they are super versatile

Then I cut out the sentiment

And adhered it to the oval watch cameo using Distress Collage Medium

Another stamp set I often reach for is Pennants, it often has the sentiment I am looking for. I stamped a sentiment directly onto an off cut piece of the background using my stamping platform and Archival Ink Pad Jet Black

Then I matted that onto some black cardstock

And matted it again, onto another left over piece of the original background

An old favourite… Martha Stewart Cherish Border Punch! I punched on both side of a strip of black cardstock

And added my sentiment to the punched strip

Then I used my Wendy Vecchi Mini Make Art Stay-tion to line the sentiment up and adhere it onto the card topper

Lastly, I adhered my watch cameo to the left of the sentiment using Distress Collage Medium and a little foam tape to raise it slightly for some dimension

A perfect ‘go to’ card topper for male or female. The distress glaze adds such a subtle touch of colour to this striking card
