Alcohol Pearls on Black Card Topper

This is one of my favourite alcohol ink card toppers! Created using alcohol pearls on black alcohol ink cardstock – I simply adore the effect. Here’s how I did it…

When working with black alcohol ink cardstock, you really do need to use snowcap in order for the inks to show on the black background. But when they do – they look amazing!
I added some Blending Solution and Isopropyl Alcohol to the black cardstock and then added some Snow Cap white mixative with some Tranquil Alcohol Ink Pearl. WOW is all I can say!
I used my air blower to move the ink across my cardstock. I love it just like this to be honest!
I saw this technique on a Jennifer McGuire video and love it! I used my Watering Can Archival Ink Pad and a favourite Wendy Vecchi Background stamp and stamped over the cardstock.
The stamped image shows up beautifully over the alcohol pearls, and seems to disappear on the black cardstock.
I would suggest using a stamping platform for this, so that you can stamp twice or more if needed.
Then I trimmed my card topper down to size
And matted it onto some coordinating metallic cardstock
I die cut the ‘wish’ from metallic cardstock which I had adhered to a thicker triplex board to give it some good dimension
I wanted to die cut some leaves but didn’t just want them to be a plain colour, so I added some Tranquil Alcohol Pearls to a piece of yupo and moved it across the yupo using my air blower
And then die cut the leaves
Because I also wanted the leaves to have some dimensions and a drop shadow, I cut the more leaves, this time from plain white triplex board
I used my Wendy Vecchi Make Art Stay-tion to place the leaves and adhere them to the background using Collage Medium Matte
I lined up the die cut word and stuck that into place, also using Collage Medium Matte
And then adhered the alcohol pearl leaves to the surface of the white leaves leaving a slight drop shadow.
I stamped the birthday onto a strip of white cardstock and added that to the top left hand corner of the card topper using double sided foam
There really isn’t much to this card topper at all, but I absolutely adore it! So effective!
I hope you get your alcohol inks out and get creative!
